After a loud storm, it is natural to look outside for an answer. Missing shingles are easy to notice; damage that leaves the roof covering in place can be harder to judge from the ground. Neither a neighbor's replacement nor a quiet-looking roof settles the question for your house.
Start with the change you noticed and the approximate storm date. A roofer can look at the covering, fasteners and flashings and explain whether the issue is localized or extends farther. Keep away from damaged trees, downed lines and unstable roof areas while arranging help.
Wind can disturb the bond between courses, lift a tab or remove material entirely. A crease can weaken a shingle even when it falls back into place. Repair depends on the affected area and the condition of the surrounding courses.
An impact can displace granules or damage the material beneath them. The roof needs to be examined for the nature and extent of that damage; the appearance of one mark is not a whole-roof conclusion.
